RE: Mykle's point

Hmmm, why would a Senator opt out of funds for bikes and peds and plow those funds into highways?

Rank speculation on my part, but, I would assume that their are certain favored road/highway developers that are also big campaign contributors. Follow the money. I wonder if propublica has anything on stuff like this?

I'm surprised Elana didn't bring this up following her mentioning of the Wicker Amendment:

Great, we can now carry ammo on Amtrak. What about bikes? If you want to take a bike on a train in the NE Corrider on Amtrak, you have to put it in a frickin bike box. That frustrates the $hit out of me. But, great, we can bring ammo. Why are our Congresspeople so damn stupid.

Um, yes it does. Go read the article again. The Feds (elected by us) already decided to spend 10% of Federal transportation funds (paid by us) on alternatives to driving (for us); Klobuchar wanted to actively block that in her state, and suck up the mandated alternative transit funds back into highways. WTF?

I'd like to see continued Federal support for bike facilities. But, I can understand Klobuchar's position: just because you like something doesn't mean you expect the Feds to pay for it.
